The International Trade Event and Conference for
eHealth, Telemedicine and Health ICT

Med-e-Tel focuses on a wide range of medical ICT applications and on the convergence of information and communication technology with medical applications, which lead to higher quality of care, cost reductions, workflow efficiency, and widespread availability of healthcare services. These services and applications include: diagnostic/monitoring systems and devices, telemedicine equipment, home monitoring services and equipment, electronic medical records, electronic health cards, imaging/PACS, hospital information systems, computer hard/software and peripherals, videoconferencing, telecommunication services, wireless data communication, satellite communication, secure data transmission, surgical systems, internet/intranet services, systems integration, consulting services.
In a professional and business-minded environment, Med-e-Tel brings manufacturers and suppliers together with healthcare service providers and other key contacts such as representatives from local government and international organizations, insurers and consultants, for the purpose of establishing new trade contacts or developing existing relationships.
In addition, the event also features many educational opportunities through its extensive program of seminars, presentations, and satellite workshops and symposia on topics such as business models, cost-benefit studies, current ehealth realizations and projects, distance education, home monitoring and homecare applications, telemedicine applications, legal and ethical aspects, broadband and wireless networks, satellites and ehealth, developing countries and ehealth, ehealth integration into routine medical practice, standardization and interconnectivity, bio-informatics.
Plenary sessions at the Med-e-Tel 2004 event covered a.o. a special session and panel discussion about the market trends and potential for ICT products and services in health care. This session was organized in cooperation with the HINE group (Health Information Network Europe), a consortium of medical, telecom and IT technology companies, headed by Deloitte. Another plenary sessions dealt with aspects of blood pressure monitoring and hypertension, a very actual topic. A third plenary session was dedicated to PACS and the EPR.
Parallel sessions included presentations on practical ehealth and telemedicine issues and projects by some of the event's exhibitors, partners and other institutions from around the world.

The International Society for Telemedicine (ISfT) and several national member associations provided information about several national and international initiatives and projects.
The eHealth Standardization Coordination Group (eHSCG) held its inaugural meeting during Med-e-Tel and also participated in the ITU/WHO session on Standardization in eHealth.

Next year's event is scheduled for 6-8 April 2005. The event includes plans for some national pavilions set up by the ISfT (International Society for Telemedicine) via some of its national member associations, an updated session on telemedicine hypertension monitoring by the ESH (European Society of Hypertension), Telemedicine-Alliance (WHO, ITU, ESA and EC) meetings on eHealth Standardization, an eHealth Symposium run by the Luxembourg CRP-Sant? aimed at regional industry, healthcare and government representatives, and a Telemedicine seminar by the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs.
Med-e-Tel is supported a.o. by the European Commission (DG Information Society), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), World Health Organization (WHO) representatives responsible for telemedicine and ehealth, International Society for Telemedicine (ISfT), European Health Telematics Association (EHTEL), UK eHealth Association (UKeHA), Russian Telemedicine Foundation, Association of Telehealth Service Providers (ATSP), Telemedicine Research Center (TRC) and several other national and international organizations.
